LGT Capital Partners’ Sustainability and Impact Academy at Freudenfels Castle

8 – 10 September 2026

Thank you for joining the LGT CP Sustainability and Impact Academy

Thank you once again for your time and active participation in the Sustainability and Impact Academy. We hope that the program was informative and that you left with ideas and inspiration on how to continue the progress on sustainability and impact investing.

Over the 2-day program we discussed the following topics in more detail:

  • Climate change is one of the main challenges of our time. The science has been clear for decades, we need to reduce and over time reach net zero GHG emissions. However, change will not come from scary messages but with positive stories and by showing the opportunities that we can invest in climate solutions.

  • We had interactive workshops to better understand the importance of biodiversity, the impact of our activities on the ecosystems and the complexity of supply chains and human rights.

  • During our two innovation labs we looked at the topic of water and agriculture, both strongly related to climate change and biodiversity.

    • We learned that sometimes we have to think in completely new ways to solve today’s problem. In the case of water, it could be in the form of closed water systems.

    • For agriculture, the implementation of patches and a large variety of crops have proven to increase biodiversity and be more resilient against pests.

  • Impact investing has come a long way and is now more established both in terms of commitments and realizations. We discussed the differences between ESG and Impact: where do you draw the line between ESG management and impact management? Doing good and creating change (impact) versus doing no harm and keeping your house in order (ESG).

    • From a practitioner’s perspective, applying a solid impact framework in a disciplined way is key to a balanced analysis of the impact created by a company’s products and services.

    • From the case study discussions, it became clear that an investor always needs to look at multiple dimensions, facts and figures to answer the questions of what the impact is, who will benefit, how much and for how long while avoiding any negative impact.

  • As the world continues to evolve with conflicts around the world, the agenda and priorities of sustainable investment also continue to change. Defense, resilience, and deeptech are key topics that are high on investor’s agenda’s again. We exchanged experience and views on the topics and discussed ways to set out a framework to analyze investment opportunities in these areas.
